Jacqueline Cullen

2004 QEST Scholar - Whitby Jet Jewellery
London

Jacqueline derives inspiration from dynamic natural phenomenon for her jewellery designs. From a placid sky ripped open by a slash of lightning depicted by cascades of tiny diamonds flowing from hand carved fissures, to intergalactic space travel. Her work is exuberantly dramatic and sculptural, yet wearable – contemporary jewellery with classic glamour.

Jacqueline left Central Saint Martins with a first class BA Hons in Jewellery Design in 2003, and it was for her final collection there that she first started working in Whitby jet. Her QEST Scholarship the following year enabled her to travel to Whitby and make connections with craftsmen and women, suppliers and historians. It was a hugely beneficial trip in terms of learning about of the history, context and origin of the material, as well as building her technical knowledge base.

Having specialised in contemporary Whitby jet and black diamond jewellery for many years, Jacqueline has now brought her innovative design aesthetic to ethereal grey agate set with champagne, electric and ice blue diamonds. All collections are entirely hand made ethically and responsibly in ateliers based in Whitby and Central London – all fissures and crevices are hand carved by Jacqueline herself.
