Andrian Melka

2008 QEST Scholar - Sculpture & Stone Carving
North Yorkshire

Andrian is a sculptor and stone carver based in Yorkshire. He left Albania during Civil War in 1997 on a Getty Scholarship to study at the Building Crafts College in London, during which time he was awarded the City & Guilds Silver Medal for Excellence.

Andrian then moved to York to work as Head Sculptor with renowned carver Dick Reid, working on high profile commissions including the Golden Jubilee Fountain for Her Majesty The Queen’s Sandringham Estate.

After one self-funded month in Pietrasanta, Italy, a 2008 QEST Scholarship enabled Andrian to stay for a further three months, learning to upscale sculpture from a small maquette to any size of block.

Andrian’s work explores the timeless fascination of the human form through both realistic and abstract figures, preferring the materials of marble, stone and bronze. His clients have included Lord Rothschild, HRH The Prince of Wales, Lord Halifax and Fred Landman.
