Angela Fung

2022 QEST Winch Design Scholar - Architectural Origami
West Sussex

Angela specialises in large-scale architectural origami installations and is a co-founder of Fung + Bedford. Together she and Ashley Bedford have carved a niche across the architectural, craft and art world, working as proud pioneers for origami. Their work has been exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery, the Bargehouse and Somerset House and more.

Originally a jeweller, Angela is self-taught in origami and QEST funding will enable her to hone her skills further through a bespoke package of training. She will study advanced origami techniques, including advanced tessellation and multiple modular origami, with master craftsman Ilan Garibi.  She will also learn from Nadine Verner, looking at three bookbinding techniques – circle binding, tessellated spine binding and fold twist hold binding, as well as undertaking courses in Rhino 3D to enable the development of her designs. Her goal is to develop wall art pieces, offer workshops and gain further commissions for large-scale installations.

Angela creates Architectural Origami with Ashley Bedford, together working as Fung+Bedford. Through manipulation by folding she transforms single layers of paper into immersive, calm and mindful installations.
